I was digging through my closet last week — the kind of dig where half the hangers end up on the floor — and realized three of the pieces I reach for most every morning came from one place: the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. A pair of jeans that still stretch right, a jacket I throw on over everything, and boots that have survived two winters already. None of them were impulse buys.
That’s what makes this sale different from any other July markdown event. It is not clearance. Nordstrom puts brand new fall arrivals on discount before the season starts. Once the sale ends, those prices go back up. So you’re buying ahead and saving at the same time — which, if you ask me, is about as good as it gets.
I’ve been tracking this sale for years, ever since my six years as a department store buyer taught me to pay attention to what actually holds its value. Here’s everything you need to know for 2026.

Monday, July 6: Preview goes live — browse every item and build your Wish List.
Tuesday, July 14: Early access opens for Icon cardmembers.
Wednesday, July 15: Ambassador cardmembers can shop.
Thursday, July 16: Influencer cardmembers get their turn.
Saturday, July 18: Public access — open to everyone.
Sunday, August 9: Sale ends. Prices go back to full.
Early Access opens at midnight ET (which is 9 PM PT the night before). If you’re on the West Coast, that means you can shop the evening before your listed date.
What’s New for 2026
A few changes worth knowing about:
- The preview drops July 6. Build your Wish List before your access day so you’re not scrolling frantically while sizes disappear.
- Three early access tiers instead of four. Nordstrom simplified the structure, which means a longer public sale window.
- You can now add sold-out items to your Wish List and get notified if they restock — new this year.
- Backorders are available on select items. If Nordstrom expects more stock, you can place an order ahead of time.
Is the Sale Worth It?
Yes — for specific things. And that qualifier matters.
This sale works when you shop with intention: you know what categories Nordstrom does well, and you’re buying pieces you’ll actually reach for all season long. It does not work if you grab everything discounted and half of it sits in your closet with the tags on.
The categories that make this genuinely worthwhile, year after year: jeans and denim, boots and booties, jackets and coats, work pants, activewear, and sweaters and cardigans. Those are outfit workhorses — the kind of pieces where a good cost-per-wear adds up fast. A $68 jacket worn 40 times comes to $1.70 per wear. That math is why I focus here.
Style Math: A quality jacket at 30–40% off during the NSale, worn across fall and winter — that’s cost-per-wear you’ll actually be happy about in January.
The Best Items to Buy
Jeans & Denim
This is consistently my top category. The NSale brings new styles from brands I trust — some exclusive to the sale and never restocked afterward. Wit & Wisdom and KUT from the Kloth are go-to brands that show up regularly, and both make comfortable stretch denim you’ll reach for every week. Madewell and Good American jeans appear too, but Madewell tends to sell out fast.
Shoes (Especially Sneakers & Boots)
New fall boots at post-season prices is a genuinely good deal. This is when I invest in new boots if I need them. Booties sell out quickly in popular sizes and colors, so add any pair you like during the preview to your Wish List right away.
Jackets & Coats
A quality coat at 30–40% off before the season starts is significant savings. I look for versatile styles — moto jackets, long coats, sporty outerwear from Bernardo or Zella — that I can wear a hundred times across seasons, not pieces that are trendy just to be trendy.
Sweaters & Cardigans
Nordstrom carries some wonderfully soft sweaters that are lightweight enough for layering. A good cardigan or pullover is something you’ll reach for constantly from September through March.
Activewear
Zella activewear shows up every year and it’s worth trying — breathable, well-cut, and understated in a way that works for both the gym and running errands. If you haven’t given Zella a chance, the NSale is the time to start.
What Sells Out First
Based on years of watching this sale unfold, here’s what goes fastest:
- Jeans in popular sizes. Shop this category first on your access day. If you see your size, grab it.
- Boots and booties in popular colors. Taupe and cognac tend to disappear the quickest.
- Barefoot Dreams cardigans. These vanish fast.
- Zella jackets and workout tops, especially in the fun colors.
My advice: go straight for what sells out fastest. Get those items checked out first, then browse everything else at leisure. Shipping is free on all orders with no minimum, so it doesn’t hurt to place multiple orders and return what you don’t need.
The Nordstrom Card & Early Access
To shop during Early Access (July 14–16), you need a Nordstrom credit card. The tiers work like this:
- Icon: Highest spend level, shops July 14.
- Ambassador: Shops July 15.
- Influencer: Most cardholders land here — shops July 16.
If you shop Nordstrom regularly, the card is worth it. I got mine specifically for this sale years ago and have kept it ever since. Right now Nordstrom is offering $60 off your next purchase when you apply and get approved.
How to Shop Smart
Check your wardrobe before July 6. Spend ten minutes looking at what you actually need. What’s worn out? What gap keeps annoying you every morning? That is your shopping list. Going in with one separates smart shopping from impulse buying.
Build your Wish List during the preview. When it goes live on July 6, heart everything by size and color. When your window opens, you’ll check out in minutes instead of scrolling while sizes vanish.
Buy multiple sizes if unsure. Free shipping and free returns on all orders means you can order two sizes and send one back. Much better than missing out because you waited to decide.
Prioritize first, browse second. Go for the sellout-prone items immediately. Check those out. Then browse everything else.
Shop online. Every item in the sale is available at nordstrom.com. In-store inventory varies by location, so your local store will have some things and not others. Online is where you see everything — and you can filter by size. I’ve gone to stores year after year and found only a fraction of what interests me.
If you want items quickly and have a Nordstrom nearby, order online and choose curbside or in-store pickup. Full selection without the shipping wait.
Restocks: What to Expect
Honest answer: don’t count on them.
Nordstrom does not guarantee restocks after early access. A few things come back, but popular sizes and styles often do not. Download the Nordstrom app and turn on notifications — that’s your best shot at catching a restock in time. If you see something you want, get it.
